Reverse DNS, also known as rDNS, represents the process of resolving an IP address to a domain name. It is the opposite operation of the Forward DNS query. It requires the creation of an additional DNS record, named PTR (pointer) record. Many administrators use it mainly for their email servers in order to prevent spam and provide validation.
